AHS Pools is Contractor of the Month

Contractor of the Month Travis Thoms of AHS Pools, with pool technician Josh Watson, is recognized by the Fountain Hills Association of Licensed Contractors.

Travis Thoms has a unique and welcome outlook on his business: “We work for the community; we are here for the community; anything we can do to help our community and keep it safe; that’s what we’re all about,” he says. His company, AHS Pools, LLC, was named Contractor of the Month by the Fountain Hills Association of Licensed Contractors.

AHS Pools provides a full range of services, including weekly cleaning, chemistry analysis, equipment repair and installation, tile, remodeling and pool building consultation. AHS works with all forms of pool heating, including heat pumps, solar, natural gas and propane, and is licensed for both residential and commercial pools.

AHS works with the Town of Fountain Hills to restore neglected green pools to the clear blue that building codes require. Green pools can breed mosquitoes that may spread West Nile disease. AHS works with real estate agents to inspect pools for buyers.

AHS also works on salt water pools. According to Thoms, they have softer water, are healthier and more stable and do not use added chlorine. “Salt water pools are very technical,” he says; “You have to know what you’re doing.” He consults with owners who want to “ozonate” their pools, adding ozone to the water to kill bacteria and keep the water clean.

AHS offers 24-hour on-call emergency service and free consultation to owners who maintain their own pool. “When you call, we come,” he says; “We work for the community to keep it healthy and save money with a properly-maintained pool.”

AHS is a family business. Travis Thoms services 240 pools in Fountain Hills homes, while father Doug Thoms services 60 pools in condominium and apartment complexes, such as the Village at Town Center, Fountainhead, Little Fountains and Balera at FireRock.

AHS helps commercial pools satisfy the federal “Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act” (15 USC 8001), a new law requiring commercial pools to have drains that prevent drowning due to entrapment and properly-engineered plumbing and fixtures.

Travis and his wife, Kristen, live in Fountain Hills, and are expecting their first child in May, 2009. They migrated from Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, a small lake town southwest of Minneapolis.

The Fountain Hills Association of Licensed Contractors is a not-for-profit trade association promoting better contracting practices.
